Safe Building Mobilization

The earthquake disaster affecting 11 provinces has once again revealed the importance of building safety. Now, important moves are coming one after another to ensure that the same mistakes are not made in newly built housing and that risky housing is rapidly renovated throughout the country. With the new law, it is expected that urban transformation mobilization will be launched throughout the country, especially in Istanbul.

THE ISTANBUL PLAN

The most important topic on the agenda is the new urban transformation law. With the law expected to come to the Parliament in the coming days, it is aimed to renovate risky structures faster. The failures seen in the field at every stage from reconciliation process to demolition, from license to reconstruction will be eliminated by this law. The province that stands out in the arrangement that will cover all risky buildings throughout the country will be Istanbul. There are 1.5 million risky housing units in the city, where experts often express the expectation of earthquakes. Moreover, 600 thousand of them have to convert very urgently...

So what will be done for the Megacity? First of all, the state plans to build 300 thousand reserve housing units in the areas it has determined. During the transformation process, in some regions the destroyed houses will be rebuilt on the spot, while in others the citizen's right will be moved to newly established living spaces. Simultaneously with this project, the public-supported campaign will also continue. When a citizen wants to renovate his own house, the state will cover half of the cost. The most critical point in urban transformation is financing. According to the latest statements, Treasury lands will be used to allocate resources for the transformation. The designated areas will be sold and the revenue will be transferred to the conversion budget.
